What is Qi?

I’ve been learning a few things and thought I would share. Let’s look at Qi from a scientific point of view. This information is from a talk by Dr. Jwing-Ming Yang, PhD.

Qigong has been available in the West since China opened its doors in 1973. Richard Nixon was invited to China in 1973 and viewed an open heart surgery as part of his visit. Of course, this was a routine procedure in the West. What was new was that the surgery was performed without Western anesthesia. The patient was awake and talking to the surgeon. The surgical pain was blocked through acupuncture (one limb of medical Qigong).

The Chinese symbol for Qi consists of two words. One word means air and the other means rice. Air + Rice = Qi. But how? Keep air and rice in mind for a moment.

Example: Glucose + 6 oxygen molecules >> 6 water molecules and 6 carbon dioxide molecules OR 686 kcal of energy. 686 kcal of energy can manifest as heat, light, or bioelectricity.

Back to the Chinese symbol for Qiging. Air is the 6 oxygen molecules, glucose is the rice. Air (oxygen) + Rice (glucose) = Qi (bioelectricity). When we breathe and eat, internal Qi (bioelectricity) is produced.

Next time I’ll post information about bioelectricity.
